I have deep experience with the Xcelsius Dashboards and Web Intelligence portions of the SAP Business Objects 3.1 suite. I have built interactive dashboards using LiveOffice, Web Services, and Antivia XWIS.
I am currently aiding my organization in transitioning from BO 3.1 to 4.1. Exciting times!
I taught myself SQL 20 years ago. Its the bedrock of my career.
In the process I learned how to picture how database tables are organized and how they relate to each other. I can see where duplicate records might be created. I can write complex queries, and more importantly, I can separate real database problems from simple issues that can be fixed from the front-end application.
Truthfully, everyone is a problem-solver. I’m a problem-solving Maven. A virtuoso. It stems from my talent for understanding and absorbing information. Once I have an understanding of the situation, I am able to attack the problem from different angles.
Ah…the classic Software Development Lifecycle. I learned this about 20 years ago. It’s a good process, a great process even, but it’s a bit rigid. Having clean handoffs are important in an environment where it’s crucial to have clear signoffs between Client and Consultant, but this isn’t always the case.
From my experience when dealing with reports, dashboards and visualizations, things work out better when the final result, as well as possible follow-on requests are taken into account. My designs are conceived with expansion in mind. The current requirements are good, but what will happen if we decide to add something? Is the final design so tight that adding a tab here, or another series there cause space issues? If so, then maybe things should be revisited.
